Exhausted? We hear ya!
This is an understatement, tiredness during the early stages can hit you like a tonne of bricks.
Tiredness during the early stages of pregnancy can hit you like a tonne of bricks. Getting through your normal day will feel like a massive struggle and you may only just manage to make it to work, then collapse into bed as soon as you get home. The good thing here is, it is completely normal, your body is busy making a little human, it is exhausting work! While it can be hard to deal with, try going with the flow on this one. If you are also suffering with morning sickness then this will not help your energy levels, particularly if you are struggling to keep anything down. Try eating little and often to help ease the sickness, sometimes keeping a stash of ginger biscuits can help too, take a look at our morning sickness article for more tips. Luckily, the tiredness should pass when you head into the second trimester and you will start feeling a bit more like your normal self but for now, put your feet up, get TOH or family member to make dinner, sleep as much as possible and make sure you are taking your supplements – iron deficiency definitely won’t help here. You may feel too tired to exercise, but this can actually help increase your energy levels and keeping your body healthy may help both now and in the future. If you are towards the end of your pregnancy then you will no doubt be feeling drained. Your baby is fully formed and will be getting bigger every day. Your back may hurt, your feet may be sore and you’ll may be experiencing sleepless nights. Try and make yourself as comfortable as possible and get as much rest as you can. If sleeping through the night becomes impossible, try using a pregnancy or body pillow to wedge under your bump to get more comfortable, you can find more tips on sleeping with a bump article.
